NEW CAROL: PREMIERE AT OUR ‘MUSIC FOR MIDWINTER’ CONCERT SUN 11TH DEC @ 6PM, ST MICHAEL’S CHURCH

Some days we feel like the luckiest choir in the world. Over the last year we’ve been invited back to sing as part of the Globe Sonnet Walks, with a specially composed piece, sung more specially composed music by our very own Ruth Kerr (Musical Director extraordinaire!) for Dr Blighty at the Brighton Festival.

This Christmas we’re premiering a brand new carol: a setting of Thomas Hardy’s the Darkling Thrush composed and arranged by Ruth. It describes a bleak and harsh landscape in midwinter, lightened by the lyric and uplifting sound of a song thrush, in full flow as dusk falls. It is hauntingly beautiful and will leave you smiling.

Almost by magic, this small frail creature lightens the gloom and brings cheer to the poet. A message that serves us well with the uncertain and sometimes dark goings on in the world around us at the moment, not to mention the darkening nights.
