History

2025: We are looking forward to singing Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at another new venue, St John the Baptist Church in Hove, in March

2024: We joined forces with fellow women’s chorus Canatatice for joints concerts in Lewes and Horsham.  We sang Evensong at Southwark Cathedral for the first time.

2023: The choir were highly commended at the inauguaral Peterborough Women’s Choral Competition with Ruth awarded a special award for leadership.

2022: Ruth started our popular Wine, Women and Song workshops inviting women to join the choir for singing and social time.

2019: We celebrated female composers with a concert exclusively of works be women.

2018: Ruth added conducting to her skill set when we were joined by a chamber orchestra for Gluck’s Orfeo e Eurydice.

2017: The choir were invited to perform at the inauguration of the Master at Ironmongers’ Hall.

2016: We sang in “Dr Blighty” as part of the Brighton Festival’s commemoration of the First World War Indian solders who convalesced in Brighton Pavilion.  Ruth wrote her first compositions for the choir.

2015: We became part of the Sonnet Walk organised by The Globe Theatre singing in Gogh Square, London.

2014: The choir sang at “The Events” at the Corn Exchange in Brighton.

2013: Ruth Kerr took over as full time Music Director.  The choir sang Evensong at Chichester Cathedral for the first time.

2012: The choir gave its first Christmas concert at St Michaels and snag in the historic Music Room of the Brighton Pavilion, a long running association we still enjoy today.

2011: Ruth Kerr joined as Assistant Music Director and the choir sang at the Valentine Ball at the Brighton Corn Exchange.

2009: The choir held its first concert at Pelham House in March 2009.

2007: The Paddock Community Singers was founded in November, under the musical direction of John Hancorn, by members the community chorus of “The Finnish Prisoner”, an opera performed in  Lewes in July.  The chorus wanted to retain the sense of pleasure and solidarity they had developed over many months of rehearsal.  Several members of the chorus are still members of the choir along with the mothers of two of the children who were in the children’s chorus.
